Remake of Italian/French film ‘All is well’ with Marcello Mastroianni in 1990: hardly a man respect when travelling by train on passing power lines – except Frank Goode. All his life he has worked hard in a cable factory, ensuring a good life for his family. He is now a typical widower retired – beige outfit of pensioners and elegantly furnished house included. About the four children successful and happy life, only his wife kept him up to date, however, after whose death awaken suddenly long hidden feelings of father Frank.
All four children to cancel the planned weekend visit one after the other, Frank decides a road trip of a special kind. He grabs the suitcase for a spontaneous trip across the United States with the aim to surprise his children: the artist David, the advertising agency Chairwoman Amy, the conductor Robert and the dancer Rosie. But gradually he finds that the four are not nearly as successful and satisfied with their lives as he always thought.
